XRP Bulls Lose $9.6M as Liquidation Imbalance Reaches 2,809%

What to Know

  • XRP bulls lost $9.6 million as leveraged liquidations overwhelmed derivatives markets, exposing excessive bullish positioning during a modest price decline.
  • Spot buyers absorbed liquidation-driven selling, fueling a V-shaped recovery before profit-taking returned and stabilized near $1.03 support levels again later.
  • Broader crypto weakness amplified XRP volatility while reduced leverage left the market with healthier price structure following liquidations overall reset.

XRP bulls absorbed the overwhelming majority of derivatives market losses as leveraged positions unraveled during a modest price decline. According to CoinGlass, long traders accounted for $9.60 million of the $9.93 million liquidated across XRP derivatives over the past 24 hours, revealing how heavily traders had positioned for additional gains before the market reversed.

Meanwhile, short sellers recorded only $330,620 in liquidations, leaving long traders with losses nearly 29 times greater than bearish positions and producing a liquidation imbalance of approximately 2,809%.

The move occurred despite XRP posting only a limited decline, with the token slipping from around $1.037 to a local low near $1.014, a drop of about 2.2% that proved enough to trigger automatic liquidations across highly leveraged positions.

Broader cryptocurrency weakness also contributed to the selloff, as the digital asset market recorded more than $199 million in total liquidations during the same period, increasing pressure across major cryptocurrencies, including XRP.

Modest price decline triggers chain reaction

The initial decline forced leveraged long positions to close automatically once liquidation levels were reached. Those sales added further pressure to XRP’s price and pushed additional traders into liquidation. Consequently, each wave of forced selling accelerated the next, creating a cascading effect across the derivatives market.

Although the correction remained relatively small, the liquidation data suggested many traders had accumulated aggressive bullish exposure. As prices slipped, excessive leverage quickly turned a routine market pullback into a much larger derivatives event.

However, selling pressure did not dominate for long. Buyers entered the market as XRP approached the $1.014 level and absorbed supply released by liquidated traders. As a result, the token staged a V-shaped recovery and climbed back toward the $1.040 area.

The rebound indicated that spot market demand remained active despite the derivatives-driven volatility. Instead of extending lower, XRP recovered much of its earlier decline within the same trading session.

Support level remains key for short-term outlook

Later in the session, profit-taking returned and pulled XRP back toward the $1.0307 region. Even so, the retracement remained moderate compared with the earlier liquidation-driven decline.

The latest figures highlighted that market positioning, rather than a dramatic collapse in XRP’s price, produced the outsized losses. Traders using elevated leverage became especially vulnerable once the token moved below key liquidation levels.

According to CoinGlass, the liquidation imbalance reflected one of the largest gaps between bullish and bearish losses during the reporting period. The data also suggested that speculative excess had been reduced as leveraged positions exited the market.

The latest XRP derivatives activity demonstrated how limited price movements can generate significant losses when leverage becomes heavily concentrated. While long traders absorbed nearly all liquidation losses, buyers returned at lower prices and helped stabilize XRP above the psychological $1.03 level.
