OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Work, a new AI agent designed to complete complex workplace tasks across connected apps, files, and business workflows. According to Crypto Briefing on X, the release also introduces GPT-5.6, scheduled automation features, and the integration of Codex into the ChatGPT desktop application.
Unlike standard chatbot interactions, ChatGPT Work is built to manage assignments that require extended planning and execution. The company said the agent can break large projects into smaller tasks before producing finished documents, spreadsheets, presentations, dashboards, web applications, and project trackers. Moreover, it can request user approval whenever a task requires guidance or confirmation.
OpenAI said GPT-5.6 powers the new system with stronger reasoning across complex workflows. Besides software development, the model supports scientific research, cybersecurity tasks, and long-duration workplace projects. It also creates materials that follow existing templates while using reference files supplied by users.

ChatGPT Gains Automation, Connected Workflows, and Enterprise Controls
OpenAI also expanded ChatGPT’s ability to work with business software through connected services. Users can link Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Drive, SharePoint, email platforms, calendars, customer relationship management systems, and project tracking tools. Consequently, ChatGPT Work can collect information from those platforms before creating or updating workplace materials.
Additionally, OpenAI introduced Sites in public beta within ChatGPT. The feature allows users to transform documents and ideas into interactive websites, dashboards, launch calendars, internal portals, reports, and lightweight web applications that can be shared through a web link.
Scheduled Tasks also form a key part of the rollout. OpenAI said users can automate recurring activities, including monitoring customer feedback, refreshing meeting agendas, checking websites and dashboards, summarizing updates, and revising presentations when new email feedback arrives.
Meanwhile, the desktop application now supports local files together with a built-in browser that gathers information from websites and cloud services. OpenAI also confirmed that the standalone Codex application will merge into the ChatGPT desktop app, while the existing desktop application will be renamed ChatGPT Classic. The company added that more than five million people use Codex every week, including over one million users working outside software development.
ChatGPT Work is rolling out first to Pro, Enterprise, and Edu subscribers, with Plus and Business users expected to receive access in the following days. OpenAI also said the updated desktop application is available globally on Windows and macOS, while Chat, Work, and Codex features will be accessible across every subscription tier, including the Free plan.
Conclusion
OpenAI’s latest release expands ChatGPT into a productivity platform by combining GPT-5.6, workplace automation, connected business tools, and enterprise security controls within a single AI-powered workspace.
