Dogecoin Trading Volume Surges 123% While Bears Retain Control of Price Trend

What to Know

  • Dogecoin recorded a 123% surge in spot trading volume while futures activity and open interest reflected stronger participation from leveraged traders.
  • Despite higher trading activity, DOGE remained below key moving averages as bearish momentum and weak technical structure continued dominating price action.
  • Bullish derivatives positioning persisted across major exchanges, but buyers still needed stronger spot demand to reclaim critical resistance and reverse trend.

Dogecoin registered a 123% increase in spot trading volume as traders became more active despite the meme coin trading near multi-month lows. The surge in activity coincided with elevated futures participation, although the broader price structure still favored sellers.

According to Coinglass, spot trading volume climbed to approximately $219 million, while futures volume reached nearly $1.5 billion and open interest remained above $1.1 billion, indicating leveraged traders continue holding sizable positions even without a decisive price recovery.

Although participation increased across both spot and derivatives markets, DOGE traded around $0.069 during the latest session. The cryptocurrency also remained below several important moving averages, leaving bearish momentum firmly intact.

Rising market activity contrasts with weak technical structure

Dogecoin once again failed to reclaim its 26-day exponential moving average near $0.074 and remained below the 50-day EMA around $0.078 and the 100-day EMA near $0.087, reinforcing the prevailing downward trend. Meanwhile, the 200-day moving average remained above $0.10 and continued sloping lower, reflecting the broader weakness that has developed over recent months while highlighting the distance bulls must recover before reversing the trend.

Momentum indicators also remained cautious as the Relative Strength Index hovered around the 34 to 35 range, placing DOGE close to oversold territory, although oversold conditions alone rarely confirm a sustained recovery while lower highs and lower lows remain intact. Significantly, the jump in trading volume stands out because unusually high activity often accompanies major market turning points, with increased volume reflecting either accumulation by larger investors or capitulation as weaker holders exit their positions.

Current price action has not confirmed either outcome, and traders are watching whether stronger market participation develops into sustained buying pressure.

Bullish derivatives positioning awaits stronger price confirmation

Derivatives markets presented a more optimistic picture than the spot market, with leading traders on major exchanges maintaining larger long positions than short positions, resulting in bullish long-to-short ratios across several trading platforms. However, that optimism has not translated into stronger spot demand, leaving Dogecoin below its most important short-term resistance levels despite growing speculative interest.

Reclaiming the 26-day EMA near $0.074 would mark the first technical improvement for buyers, while a move above the 50-day EMA around $0.078 could strengthen recovery momentum before the $0.087 resistance zone becomes the next major hurdle.

Dogecoin’s 123% jump in trading volume reflects renewed trader participation despite persistent weakness across the broader price structure, although buyers still need to reclaim key resistance levels before the technical outlook shifts away from its current bearish trend.
