Cypherpunk Launches Zcash Mining Fleet With $33M Winklevoss Backing

Cypherpunk Launches Zcash Mining Fleet With $33M Winklevoss Backing

In Brief:

  • Cypherpunk Technologies launched a Zcash mining fleet producing 4.2 GSol/s and representing approximately 18% of the network’s total hashrate capacity.
  • Cypherpunk holds 323,394.38 ZEC and targets 5% of the circulating supply, using mining production to support its broader accumulation strategy goals.
  • Cypherpunk appointed Kevin Zhang to lead mining operations while expanding Zcash exposure through treasury holdings and its investment in ZODL.

Cypherpunk Technologies has launched a major Zcash mining operation that accounts for approximately 18% of the network’s total hashrate. The Nasdaq-listed company now operates around 4.2 GSol/s of Equihash computing power across mining facilities in the United States.

According to the announcement, Cypherpunk secured the mining fleet through a $33.33 million equity transaction involving Winklevoss Capital. The company describes the operation as the world’s largest Zcash mining fleet based on its deployed hashrate.

Moreover, Cypherpunk acquired latest-generation Z15 Pro mining machines and related hosting agreements from Moria Mining and Winklevoss Treasury Investments. This acquisition adds direct ZEC production to a strategy previously centered mainly on building the company’s cryptocurrency treasury.

Cypherpunk funded the transaction through a prefunded warrant linked to approximately 43.3 million shares of its common stock. Winklevoss Treasury Investments can purchase those shares at an exercise price of $0.001 per share.

Meanwhile, the transaction valued the common stock at $0.77 when calculating the number of shares covered by the arrangement. Cypherpunk expects the mining operation to generate ZEC that could support additional cryptocurrency purchases and other corporate investments.

Mining Expansion Supports Cypherpunk’s 5% ZEC Supply Target

Cypherpunk currently owns 323,394.38 ZEC, which represents approximately 1.92% of the cryptocurrency’s circulating supply. However, the company has established a larger target of eventually controlling 5% of the circulating ZEC supply.

Mining provides Cypherpunk with another method for accumulating ZEC without depending entirely on purchases from the open market. Approximately 43,800 ZEC are distributed among miners every month, based on figures released by the company.

Additionally, Cypherpunk plans to use mining proceeds to support growth, purchase additional ZEC, and invest in privacy-focused technologies. The strategy therefore connects the company’s mining operation directly with its broader objective of expanding its Zcash holdings.

Cypherpunk Broadens Its Exposure to the Zcash Ecosystem

Cypherpunk has already extended its involvement in the Zcash ecosystem through an investment in ZODL, a privacy-focused Zcash wallet. Consequently, its exposure now includes treasury holdings, cryptocurrency mining, and investments connected with privacy technology.

The company also appointed Kevin Zhang as head of mining to oversee its growing infrastructure and operational strategy. Zhang previously worked at Foundry and brings experience managing mining infrastructure supporting both Bitcoin and Zcash.

Significantly, the new fleet gives Cypherpunk direct exposure to Zcash mining rewards alongside potential changes in its existing treasury value. Retaining part of its mining output could also help the company gradually increase its share of circulating ZEC.

Cypherpunk’s mining expansion therefore strengthens its broader plan to build one of the largest corporate positions within the Zcash ecosystem. Reaching its 5% target will depend on mining production, additional purchases, and changes in ZEC’s circulating supply.
