Cardano Midnight Transactions Explode 9,117% Following Smart Contract Launch

What to Know

  • Cardano-linked Midnight Network recorded a 9,117% transaction surge, with daily activity climbing from 284 to 26,178 following smart contract deployment.
  • Midnight’s Ledger v9 upgrade will introduce private swaps, shielded tokens, and decentralized finance access directly through existing Solana wallets.
  • Cardano developer Input Output released Ouroboros consensus updates and Plutus improvements, expanding smart contract capabilities across the blockchain ecosystem.

Cardano-linked Midnight Network recorded a 9,117% increase in daily transactions, with blockchain activity expanding significantly within one week. According to Midnight Explorer, transactions climbed from 284 on October 1 to 26,178 on October 8, marking substantial network growth.

The increase coincided with Midnight’s September 28 introduction of permissionless smart contracts, which expanded deployment opportunities across its blockchain infrastructure. Developers can now deploy smart contracts directly without completing mandatory security reviews on Preprod, simplifying application development across the network.

Additionally, applications can deploy contracts on behalf of users, reducing onboarding requirements and supporting decentralized finance, gaming, and privacy applications. The transaction figures represent a 92-fold increase, highlighting considerable activity across Midnight’s expanding smart contract ecosystem during the reporting period.

Midnight Expands Privacy Features to Solana Through Ledger Upgrade

Midnight’s network expansion also includes plans to introduce privacy-focused financial services directly into Solana wallets through its Ledger v9 upgrade. According to Midnight Foundation CTO Sebastien Guillemot, the integration will enable private swaps and decentralized finance interactions without additional installations. The planned functionality includes shielded tokens, private transactions, and sponsored application fees supported through Midnight’s NIGHT dual-token economic model.

Consequently, Solana users will gain access to supported privacy applications directly through existing wallets once developers complete the planned integration. Guillemot confirmed that the integration remains on testnet, with the mainnet rollout scheduled for later in 2026.

Cardano Introduces Ouroboros and Plutus Network Improvements

Meanwhile, Cardano developer Input Output reported several network improvements involving consensus upgrades and expanded smart contract capabilities. Its weekly development report confirmed the release of Ouroboros consensus versions 5.0 and 5.1.0.0, strengthening Cardano’s underlying technical infrastructure.

Additionally, developers released Plutus version 1.71.0.0, introducing the complete Plutus V4 script context for integration into node version 11.2. The release also includes Plutus Core language version 1.2.0 and cost models supporting keepPolicies and dropPolicies under CIP-0168.

These upgrades accompany Midnight’s growing transaction activity and planned expansion into Solana’s decentralized finance ecosystem. Midnight’s reported transaction increase demonstrates higher network usage, while sustained adoption will depend on developer activity and application demand.
