Ripple continues to strengthen its position in the global digital asset market with the renewal of its partnership with Garanti BBVA, Turkey’s second-largest private bank. Ripple’s Managing Director for Middle East and Asia, Reece Merrick, confirmed that Garanti BBVA Kripto will extend its use of Ripple’s advanced custody technology to provide secure transfers and storage for major cryptocurrencies, including XRP, Bitcoin (BTC), and Ethereum (ETH).
This strategic move underscores the growing confidence in Ripple’s ability to offer secure and compliant digital asset solutions to millions of retail customers. Initially launched in 2024, Garanti BBVA Kripto has rapidly expanded its services, driven by the high demand for crypto solutions in Turkey, where crypto adoption has surged amid inflation.
The renewed partnership reflects Garanti BBVA’s commitment to providing robust, regulatory-compliant services to its expanding client base, positioning the bank as a leading player in Turkey’s digital asset market.

Strengthening Security with Ripple’s Custody Technology
The partnership enables Garanti BBVA Kripto to continue using Ripple’s institutional-grade custody software, enhanced by IBM’s secure LinuxONE hardware security modules (HSM). This combination provides an added layer of security for digital assets, ensuring that they are stored safely and remain compliant with regulatory standards. Garanti BBVA’s focus on maintaining a secure and compliant infrastructure demonstrates the bank’s long-term commitment to offering institutional-grade solutions to its clients.
Ripple’s ongoing collaboration with Garanti BBVA dates back to 2017, when BBVA became the first Tier-1 European bank to conduct an international transfer using Ripple’s distributed ledger technology (DLT).
The relationship has grown over the years, with BBVA Switzerland introducing a Bitcoin trading and custody service for private clients in 2021. Ripple’s acquisition of Metaco in 2023 further expanded its capabilities in the custody space, cementing its leadership in digital asset security.
Ripple’s European Expansion: New Developments with BBVA Spain
In addition to its Turkish partnership, Ripple also expanded its relationship with BBVA in Spain in September 2025. This new agreement coincides with the launch of BBVA’s crypto-asset trading and custody service for retail customers, initially offering Bitcoin and Ether.
The partnership allows BBVA to leverage Ripple Custody, providing a secure and scalable solution for managing tokenized assets. Ripple’s support comes at a time when the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation is creating a clearer and more secure framework for banks to enter the digital asset space.
This broader expansion of Ripple’s partnerships signals the company’s growing influence in the global digital asset landscape, with a focus on offering secure and compliant solutions for institutional clients worldwide.
