Last updated on May 18th, 2024 at 12:24 pm

Popular crypto exchange, BitPay has recently deleted its statement regarding a partnership with Xsolla – a video game commerce company, to allow XRP as a payment method for gaming platforms.

The previous announcement which was made by BitPay via an X (formerly Twitter) post on October 17, stated that it has partnered with Xsolla to enable customers to purchase and play games such as Roblox and Smite game on the Xsolla platform using XRP as a payment option.

Since the launch of Xsolla in 2015, it has grown to be one of the biggest video game commerce companies in the world. It provides gamers and publishers with tools and services. In addition, it also offers payment processing, monetization solutions as well as in-game purchases. Xsolla’s operations extend to over 200 countries in 20+ languages and support 130 currencies.

In the retracted tweet, BitPay announced that users can now use XRP to buy and play games such as Roblox and Smite game. Following the announcement, the XRP community was pleased with the development as it meant a wider adoption of their favorite cryptocurrency.

Excitement Short-lived

However, less than 24 hours later, BitPay went ahead to delete the announcement from its page citing “inaccuracy” in the tweet. In an email response to Decrypt, BitPay Chief Marketing Officer Bill Zielke said that there was an error in the tweet, adding that more tweets about merchants accepting crypto will be announced in the future.

Even though the tweet has been long deleted, the rumor about Roblox “integrating” XRP into its payment offerings already spread like wildfire. Popular crypto influencers on X had already started sharing the news stating that the integration “not only enhances XRP’s standing in these sectors but also deepens the existing relationship between Xsolla and BitPay.”

However, Roblox told Decrypt that these claims are unverified and do not have a reputable source.

“Unfortunately, we’ve seen quite a few articles on this and the info is inaccurate,” a spokesperson for Roblox said, adding that Roblox does not accept payments with payments with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and XRP.

At press time, only payment methods such as credit card, debit card, gift card, PayPal, Venmo, Klarna, CVS Pharmacy payments, or a Paysafecard are acceptable on the Roblox website.
