BNB Chain Issues Urgent April 28 Warning That Could Disrupt Nodes

  • BNB Chain warns node operators ahead of critical April upgrade
  • Mandatory BSC update required or nodes risk falling out
  • New protocol changes aim to improve stability and transaction efficiency

BNB Chain has released a critical warning ahead of its April 28 upgrade, placing node operators on high alert. The network confirmed that a mandatory update must be completed before the scheduled hard fork to avoid disruptions.

Mandatory upgrade timeline and key technical requirements revealed

According to the developers’ notice, node operators must upgrade to BSC version 1.7.2 before the Osaka and Mendel hard fork activates. The upgrade will go live on the BSC mainnet on April 28 at 2:30 a.m. UTC. Consequently, nodes that fail to meet this requirement risk falling out of sync during the transition.

Additionally, the update instructions stress the importance of replacing binaries correctly and removing outdated configuration fields. These steps help maintain stability and prevent technical issues once the upgrade goes live. Moreover, the countdown has already begun, increasing the urgency for operators to act quickly.

The Osaka and Mendel upgrade arrives shortly after its successful deployment on the BSC testnet in March. That earlier rollout allowed developers to test performance improvements under real conditions. As a result, the team observed better transaction handling and improved execution consistency.

Key protocol changes could reshape how transactions behave on BNB Chain

The Mendel upgrade introduces several technical changes designed to improve network performance and reliability. One major update involves integrating EIP-7825 through BEP-652, which enforces a strict gas limit cap per transaction.

This cap is set at 16,777,216, ensuring that all nodes uniformly reject transactions exceeding the limit. Previously, the network relied on a softer, optional cap mechanism. However, the new approach creates a more consistent and predictable system.

Additional upgrades focus on latency and network efficiency

Furthermore, the upgrade includes nine BEPs that refine various aspects of the network’s operation. Developers also adopted seven Ethereum Improvement Proposals aligned with Ethereum’s broader upgrade framework. However, some proposals were excluded due to structural differences between the two ecosystems.

In addition, BNB Chain introduced network-specific enhancements aimed at improving efficiency. One update limits blob transactions based on block numbers, helping manage data flow. Another focuses on reducing latency while speeding up transaction finality across the network.

These combined upgrades aim to strengthen overall network performance while maintaining operational consistency. Consequently, the April 28 deadline stands as a crucial moment for node operators to ensure compliance and avoid disruption. The urgent warning from BNB Chain highlights the importance of preparation ahead of the April 28 hard fork.
