Coinbase’s Base App Clarifies Account Balance Changes Amid Beta Adjustments

  • Base App updates coin values, ensuring portfolios show accurate market data.
  • Coinbase reassures users no funds lost during beta phase adjustments.
  • AWS outage briefly disrupted crypto services before Base clarified display changes.

Coinbase’s Base App addressed concerns from users on Monday after some noticed unexpected changes to their account balances. According to a post on X, the platform clarified that no funds were lost. Instead, the visible balance changes were due to a new system update affecting how coin values are displayed within the app.

Previously, certain digital assets without trading activity appeared to have a value, even though that value was not claimable.

The platform explained that from now on, coins that have not yet been traded will show a value of zero until a transaction occurs. This update ensures that user portfolios better reflect actual market activity rather than estimated or illiquid figures.

The adjustment came on the same day an Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage caused disruptions for several crypto-related platforms, including MetaMask and Coinbase.

Although Base did not directly mention the outage in its statement, the company acknowledged that temporary inconsistencies were part of its ongoing beta testing phase. AWS later confirmed that the issue had been fully resolved.

Base Reinforces Its Beta Phase as Part of Broader Vision

Base emphasized that the display change is part of continuous testing aimed at improving transparency and accuracy. The team stated that the update was designed to make users’ experience more reliable as the app moves through its beta phase. According to the post, “This is part of testing and learning during the beta, making the app more accurate with every update.”

In July, Coinbase reintroduced its Coinbase Wallet as Base App, describing it as an “everything app” that merges payments, trading, mini-apps, and social interactions. The initiative aims to create a unified platform for Web3 engagement, integrating both community and commerce in one place.

Despite the brief disruption, Base reassured users that their funds remain secure and that the display update was a standard part of development. The company’s proactive communication reflects its effort to build trust and provide clarity during ongoing beta testing, as it continues refining its platform for a wider rollout.
