- Vitalik Buterin stresses incorruptibility as Ethereum’s defining blockchain strength.
- ZKSync Atlas upgrade boosts Ethereum scalability with faster transaction processing.
- Experts debate Ethereum’s reliance on Layer-2s and long-term security.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has emphasized that incorruptibility remains the blockchain’s most vital property. His comment reignited discussions across the crypto community, especially as he continues to praise the ZKSync project on social media. According to Buterin, the scaling solution has been making notable progress within the Ethereum ecosystem.
ZKSync, which utilizes ZK-rollup technology, is designed to reduce gas fees while increasing transaction speed. Its recent Atlas upgrade, launched in October, reportedly enables processing of up to 30,000 transactions per second. The development is seen as a major step toward addressing Ethereum’s scalability challenges.

Debate Over Ethereum’s True Incorruptibility
While Buterin’s views received support from many in the community, others remain skeptical about Ethereum’s incorruptibility. JAN3 CEO Samson Mow argued that the original incorruptible chain was Ethereum Classic, which resisted the DAO hard fork in 2016. Mow and other Bitcoin proponents believe that the decision to alter Ethereum’s ledger after the hack compromised its immutability.
Some critics also highlighted Ethereum’s premine and lack of a supply cap as ongoing concerns. They argue that these issues differentiate it from Bitcoin’s fixed issuance model. Moreover, questions have emerged around Ethereum’s reliance on Layer-2 networks, which are not yet considered fully secure.
Balancing Innovation With Security
A prominent commentator pointed out that Ethereum’s main chain may be highly resilient, but its dependence on developing Layer-2 solutions introduces potential risks. “Ethereum L1 is practically incorruptible, but L2s are not there yet,” the commentator stated, adding that the network’s long-term integrity depends on the maturity of its scaling layers.
Despite these differing opinions, Ethereum continues to dominate smart contract activity across the blockchain landscape. The ongoing expansion of projects like ZKSync reinforces its position as a leading platform focused on scalability and efficiency.
As the debate over incorruptibility continues, Ethereum’s evolution remains a focal point for both supporters and critics. The balance between innovation and immutability will likely shape how the network is perceived in the years ahead.
