Massive Ethereum Upgrade Coming Dec 3 as Fusaka Mainnet Date Confirmed

  • Ethereum confirms Fusaka upgrade launch, transforming network scalability and performance.
  • PeerDAS feature to enhance validator efficiency and data accessibility.
  • Mainnet activation scheduled for December 3 at 21:49 UTC.

Ethereum developers have officially confirmed December 3 as the launch date for the network’s next major upgrade, Fusaka. According to researchers from the Ethereum Foundation, the confirmation came during an All Core Devs call held on Thursday, finalizing a timeline that had been under consideration since mid-September.

The announcement follows the successful completion of the Hoodi testnet deployment earlier this week. This marks the final testing phase for Fusaka after previous successful rollouts on the Holesky and Sepolia testnets earlier in October. The smooth testnet transitions have paved the way for the upgrade to go live on Ethereum’s mainnet.

Decision Finalized During ACDC Call

The decision to activate the Fusaka upgrade was finalized during the All Core Developers Consensus Layer (ACDC) call #168, held two days after the upgrade’s successful deployment on the Hoodi testnet. The testnet ran without any technical issues, confirming the network’s readiness for the mainnet transition.

The upgrade will activate on the Ethereum mainnet once the blockchain reaches slot 13,164,544, which is expected to occur at 21:49 UTC on December 3. During the call, Alex Stokes, an Ethereum Foundation researcher who leads the ACDC meetings, expressed confidence in the development team’s efforts, saying,

“Let’s go ahead and do this. This was a big lift to get this together by this point in time, so thank you for that. This is a really cool fork.”

Fusaka Set to Transform Ethereum’s Performance and Scalability

The Fusaka hard fork will introduce nearly a dozen Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) aimed at boosting the network’s scalability, security, and efficiency. Among its main features is Peer Data Availability Sampling (PeerDAS), which enables validators to access data faster and reduce bandwidth usage.

The upgrade will also raise the block gas limit from 30 million to 150 million units, double blob capacity, and strengthen overall network performance ahead of its December 3 activation on the Ethereum mainnet.

Security Measures Ahead of the Launch

To ensure a secure launch, the Ethereum Foundation recently hosted a four-week audit contest, offering up to $2 million in rewards to researchers who could identify vulnerabilities before the mainnet rollout. The initiative was designed to detect potential flaws early and reinforce the network’s reliability before activation.

The Fusaka hard fork marks one of the most substantial updates to Ethereum in recent years. As the December 3 launch approaches, developers and validators are preparing for a transition designed to make the network faster, more efficient, and better equipped to handle future demand.
