Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, has reignited debate in the crypto world after stating that XRP was created to succeed where Bitcoin fell short. According to a video shared by John Squire on X, Garlinghouse clarified that Ripple did not issue XRP and stressed that the XRP Ledger was built as an improved version of Bitcoin’s original vision.
According to Garlinghouse, the XRP Ledger was created by developers who built some of the world’s first blockchain technologies, making it open-source and decentralized. Several participated in Bitcoin development and later saw many issues in its setup. Some significant matters were difficulties in growing the network, a slow speed for processing transactions, increased energy use, and greater expenses.
In his comments, Garlinghouse said the makers of the XRP Ledger saw Bitcoin as only a stepping stone, not as the ultimate solution. He spoke about Bitcoin’s blockchain being in a beta stage and was inspired to create a better and more practical solution. According to him, XRP has been set up to allow for easy, cheap, and prompt transactions with less energy used for mining than Bitcoin.

XRP Positioned as a Practical Upgrade Over Bitcoin
The suggestion that XRP is what Bitcoin tried to be quickly spread across the crypto community. Supporters of XRP welcomed the statement, pointing to its faster transaction speeds and lower fees. They believe XRP’s performance and environmental efficiency give it an edge in real-world financial applications.
However, people, mainly those who like Bitcoin, opposed the measures. Blockchain enthusiasts believe Bitcoin is still superior because it is decentralized and secure, even though speed or energy usage can be problematic. Several of them argued that describing Bitcoin as a beta product was unwarranted, as it is central to the crypto industry.
Nevertheless, his statement has caused people to examine what XRP aims to achieve and how it came into existence. Focusing on addressing Bitcoin’s shortcomings in XRP’s creation, the Ripple CEO has encouraged people to rethink how blockchain can be innovated.
Garlinghouse has now introduced a new component to the age-old competition between XRP and Bitcoin by speaking out. By making this statement, he has encouraged people to talk about how blockchain technology should advance to be useful in everyday use.
