Ripple CTO Hints at Satoshi’s Role as Early Bitcoin Issuer in Ongoing XRP Debate

Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz has suggested that Bitcoin’s mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, could be viewed as the initial issuer of the cryptocurrency. Schwartz’s comments emerged during an active debate surrounding Ripple’s relationship with XRP and whether the company can be considered its issuer.

According to the Ripple executive, Satoshi’s early involvement in mining the first blocks and launching the Bitcoin network provides reasonable grounds to consider him the original issuer. While the idea challenges conventional definitions, it introduces new complexity to regulatory and ecosystem-related discussions in the cryptocurrency space.

Schwartz pointed out that Ethereum had a clearly defined issuer during its presale period. In contrast, he emphasized that XRP did not begin with the intention of being a marketable asset. At the time of its launch, XRP had no established trading framework and was described as “literally worthless.” He noted that there were even uncertainties surrounding the continuation of the XRP Ledger stream in its early phase.

Reframing the Concept of Issuer in the Crypto Ecosystem

The CTO’s comments have sparked further debate within the crypto community about how the term “issuer” should be interpreted. Instead of limiting the role to the entity that creates the token, Schwartz proposed a broader understanding. He argued that participants who structure and support the asset’s financial environment, such as exchanges, could also fit the description.

This reframing shifts attention from Ripple as the originator of XRP to the ecosystem that enables its trading and utility. According to Schwartz, on a strict definition Ripple remained an issuer. However, when scaled-up to a broader perspective, the influence of the company is not as omnipotent as it is normally assumed.

When Lazarus reappeared on the scene, Schwartz mentioned once again his personal history in the crypto space to put an end to the guesswork over his identity. Having theorized that he could be Satoshi Nakamoto, some observers have speculated that he lived in New Zealand since 2008; however, Schwartz explained that he did not learn about Bitcoin until 2011. This was several years following official introduction of the cryptocurrency.

The discussion continues to gain attention as industry figures and regulators seek clearer definitions in an evolving digital landscape.
