- Ripple halts August XRP escrow release, fueling speculation on changes.
- XRP community questions Ripple’s strategy after skipping August escrow release.
- August delay marks first break in Ripple’s 7-year escrow routine.
Ripple has left the XRP community in suspense as it skips its expected escrow release for August 2025. This marks the first time in over seven years that the company has failed to unlock XRP from escrow during the month, leaving many to wonder if the longstanding pattern has finally come to an end.
Since January 2018, Ripple has been releasing one billion XRP from escrow every month. Out of each release, 700 million XRP is immediately put back into escrow, ensuring a controlled supply. This has become a monthly release that analysts and the XRP community closely follow. However, August 2025 marks a significant break in this pattern, as no XRP has been unlocked so far.
The @XRPwallets account, which regularly tracks XRP’s activity in the blockchain, noted that the standard transaction did not occur in August. This change from the pattern is raising the eyebrows of XRP supporters, with different people commenting that Ripple could actually do away with its monthly escrow releases.

Is Ripple Ending Its Monthly Escrow Releases?
The August release’s absence has raised questions about Ripple’s strategy moving forward. To date, over 90 billion XRP have been released from escrow since the practice began in 2018.
Ripple has yet to release most of its large holding in escrow, 36.6 billion XRP, though this latest delay in the timeline has prompted some speculation about whether Ripple might be adjusting its actions or reconsidering its token release schedule.
The last release occurred in July 2025, when 1 billion XRP was unlocked, and 700 million was returned to escrow. However, there has been no corresponding action this month, leaving the community of XRP users on tenterhooks waiting to hear an official clarification concerning Ripple. Certain observers believe that this is a temporary hiatus or an indicator of a more general shift in the way Ripple treats its XRP.
As of now, Ripple has not issued an official statement addressing the lack of an August escrow release. The community is cautiously observing the development and awaiting a fresh direction on whether this has created a lasting change in how Ripple will handle its escrow reserves.
