Scammers Are Stealing Faces and Crypto by Posing as Binance Support Team

Scammers pretending to be Binance support agents are now targeting users with a new form of identity fraud. The attackers are tricking individuals into sending face videos and scanning fake QR codes to gain control of crypto accounts.

According to a detailed update on Binance’s official blog published on June 13, these tactics are designed to bypass verification and security layers. Fraudsters contact users through WhatsApp, Telegram, or Facebook, posing as support staff from Binance. They claim there are issues with the user’s account and request a face video to resolve it.

Once the face video is obtained, scammers use it alongside stolen data to bypass biometric authentication. This allows them to visit user accounts and send money without arousing any instant suspicions. In other cases, victims also receive QR codes in the guise of login assistance or reward claims.

By scanning these QR codes, the criminals now have access to the user’s account since that is how the Binance login system functions. The company elaborated that just one careless scan may lead to a total account takeover and a quick loss of capital.

In one of the real-life scenarios, a user called Lisa got a QR code via WhatsApp that promised her Binance rewards. After viewing it, she came close to losing her account before she finally managed to freeze it. Binance has noted that such scams are centred on acting fast and misplaced trust.

Binance Issues Strong Warning and Steps Up Protection Against Impersonation

The Binance risk team confirmed that they are actively tracking and shutting down fake support accounts. They warned users not to send videos or scan QR codes that do not come directly from the Binance app or website.

According to the exchange, valid communication is only possible through verified channels. It also stated that one should remember to lock their devices with the best passwords, use two-factor authentication, and take immediate action after phone theft.

A blockchain security company, CertiK, stated that more than 2.1 billion worth of crypto was stolen worldwide in 2025. Binance’s warning continues to confirm the rate at which impersonation and social engineering techniques are developing, especially in crypto.

Binance asks its user community to stay vigilant and not entertain the request to send facial videos or QR scans to an anonymous party. The recent outbreak of phishing attacks only serves as another reminder that people should t ignore the admonition to keep an eye open and only rely on confirmed spots to keep their online resources secure.
