Starknet Faces Fresh Mainnet Outage in 2026 as Network Stability Comes Under Fire

Starknet came under fresh pressure after its mainnet experienced another disruption, intensifying debate around network stability. The team acknowledged the outage on X and said engineers were working to restore operations.


At the time of the update, the downtime had lasted more than two hours, although the team did not immediately disclose the cause of the issue. Starknet functions as a zero–knowledge rollup–based Ethereum layer 2, processing transactions off-chain before posting proofs to Ethereum, and consequently targeting lower fees and higher throughput for decentralized applications.


The disruption affected decentralized finance, gaming, and smart contract activity across the network, resulting in reports of stalled transactions and delayed confirmations. Despite the technical setback, market response remained stable, with data from CoinMarketCap showing the STRK token holding firm during the outage.


Beyond Ethereum scaling, Starknet has also been expanding into Bitcoin-focused decentralized finance and promotes itself as infrastructure for BTCFi, supporting Bitcoin-linked financial applications within the Ethereum ecosystem.

Repeated outages intensify reliability concerns

This latest incident follows several mainnet disruptions recorded throughout 2025, placing Starknet’s reliability under closer scrutiny, including a major upgrade called Grinta v0.14.0 that halted block production.


During that event, the network underwent two chain reorganizations, which reverted close to one hour of activity and forced users to resubmit affected transactions.


An internal incident report later stated that the Grinta-related downtime lasted roughly nine hours and cited Ethereum RPC provider failures alongside software bugs affecting sequencer behavior. Earlier in the year, Starknet also suffered a separate multi-hour outage linked to sequencer instability, while external trackers logged several periods of slowed or halted block creation.


Developer confidence tested as recovery efforts continue

Following earlier disruptions, the Starknet team committed to architectural improvements and enhanced monitoring systems. However, the recurrence of downtime suggests ongoing operational challenges. Engineers are currently focused on restoring full functionality after the latest incident. The team has not yet clarified whether the outage relates to previous sequencer or infrastructure issues.


Consequently, developers building on Starknet are reassessing deployment risks, particularly for applications requiring consistent uptime. Additionally, ecosystem participants are closely monitoring how quickly stability returns as network usage expands.


Overall, the fresh mainnet disruption keeps attention on Starknet’s ability to maintain reliability while pursuing ambitious scaling and BTCFi objectives.
