- Vitalik Buterin predicts AI chatbots could mold tomorrow’s brightest minds.
- Teenagers may gain knowledge or waste time engaging with AI.
- Experts highlight AI’s power in education and risks of distraction.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has voiced his belief that artificial intelligence could strongly influence how future generations develop. His remarks followed an online conversation about doomscrolling, an activity of reading an endless stream of digital information that many youths find difficult to resist today.
Buterin claims that doomscrolling can be both positive and negative, depending on the content of the news. Online habits that do not make good use of time can also be helpful tools in giving some insights. He has then likened this habit to what he sees as the following form of doomscrolling: heavy use of AI chatbots.

Buterin Highlights Two Possible Outcomes
Buterin suggested that AI could become a positive force in shaping young minds. He explained that teenagers who spend hours questioning AI about science, global affairs, and knowledge could grow into some of the most intelligent individuals of their generation.
At the same time, he warned that many young people might choose a different path. They could waste hours of their time talking to chatbots that do not provide much value instead of utilizing AI to broaden their knowledge.
Other scholars have also started voicing their opinions on artificial intelligence’s overall effect. Nassim Nicholas Taleb, the author of the famous book The Black Swan, recently indicated the future of AI in medicine. Although he points out that AI is not yet ready to replace a physician, he feels it can revolutionize the way medical students learn, helping students who prefer to learn on their own study more effectively.
Therefore, both voices point out that artificial intelligence may become a tool of personal development or another distraction. The difference, Buterin stressed, will depend on how the younger generation decides to interact with it.
The prediction by Vitalik Buterin highlights the importance of AI chatbots in the development of the next generation of leaders and thinkers. Whether these tools guide youth toward more profound knowledge or unproductive habits will be determined by how they are used.
