XRP Ledger to Support Token Escrows and MPTs in Major Upcoming Upgrade

XRP Ledger to Support Token Escrows and MPTs in Major Upcoming Upgrade

The XRP Ledger is preparing for one of its most essential upgrades yet. According to Vet, a dUNL validator, the network will soon support Token Escrows for a wide range of assets beyond XRP.

Previously, escrow functions were limited to XRP only. With the introduction of the “XLS-85d: Token Enabled Escrows” amendment, assets like RLUSD stablecoins, meme coins, and tokenized real-world assets will now be eligible for escrow.

It should make tokens more practical to use and give developers extra control over token management. It also offers the potential to do more secure and detailed transactions with various asset types.

The ledger is planned to support Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPTs) in addition to escrowing tokens. According to Vet, this feature marked a large improvement, highlighting how compact and useful it is for making fungible tokens.

MPTs require less code to start up, making it easier for developers to launch tokens. As a result, more tokens can be created, and assets can be moved more smoothly across the ledger.

Batch Transactions and Atomic Swaps to Expand Transaction Capabilities

Meanwhile, the recently merged Batch amendment pull request has added another layer of functionality to XRPL. Known as XLS-56, the update will allow users to submit multiple transactions in a single batch.

Each batch can include up to eight transactions and support all transaction types. More importantly, it enables atomic swaps, making it possible to execute asset exchanges securely in a single operation.

As a result, users and developers with many operations at once may see improvements in efficiency. It’s likely to make things run more efficiently and coordinate different actions more effectively.

RippleX engineer Mayukha Vadari previously hinted at these planned updates in steps back in May. Both of these additions represent essential progress in the goal of developing XRPL’s platform.

Conclusion

The XRP Ledger is evolving quickly with the rollout of Token Escrows and MPT support. With these features, the platform is taking essential steps toward broader adoption and improved on-chain functionality.
