Bitmine, SharpLink Back EthSystems to Advance Institutional Ethereum Privacy

What to Know:

  • Bitmine and SharpLink backed EthSystems to develop confidential Ethereum infrastructure for banks, asset managers, and regulated financial institutions worldwide.
  • Former Ethereum Foundation researchers launched the company while preserving open-source contributions and privacy-focused technology for enterprise blockchain adoption through consulting.
  • Ethereum’s restructuring coincided with the emergence of new organizations, including EthLabs and Ethereum Institutional, as Joe Lubin supported broader enterprise ecosystem development efforts.

Bitmine and SharpLink have backed EthSystems, a newly launched company focused on building privacy infrastructure for institutional Ethereum users. The venture also has support from Consensys CEO and Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin, highlighting growing industry efforts to make Ethereum more practical for regulated financial institutions.

EthSystems was created by former members of the Ethereum Foundation’s Institutional Privacy Task Force. The company aims to help banks, asset managers, and other regulated organizations use Ethereum without exposing confidential business information on public blockchain networks.

According to the EthSystems team, the company will operate as a commercial business developing tailored privacy solutions for institutional clients. The founders said the move allows them to work directly with enterprises while maintaining their commitment to open-source software development.

The company explained that institutions often require dedicated commercial partners when deploying blockchain infrastructure. As a result, EthSystems will provide consulting services alongside technical development to address complex privacy challenges.

Former Ethereum Foundation Team Expands Privacy Efforts

EthSystems was founded by former Ethereum Foundation contributors Mo Jalil, Oskar Thorén, and Aaryamann Challani. All three previously worked on the Foundation’s Institutional Privacy Task Force, where they engaged with regulators, central banks, and financial institutions exploring Ethereum adoption.

During their time at the Foundation, the team developed several privacy-focused initiatives. Their work included confidential stablecoin transfers, private bond issuance using zero-knowledge proofs, confidential cross-chain settlement systems, and the Ethereum Privacy Map.

Moreover, EthSystems plans to publish protocol specifications while contributing open-source software to the Ethereum ecosystem. At the same time, the company will develop customized systems that allow institutions to process transactions without revealing trading activity, client identities, or portfolio positions across the public network.

The founders said their commercial model addresses one of the biggest barriers facing institutional Ethereum adoption. Consequently, organizations seeking privacy solutions can work directly with a dedicated business while benefiting from technology that also strengthens Ethereum’s broader infrastructure.

Ethereum Ecosystem Adds New Independent Organizations

The launch comes as the Ethereum ecosystem undergoes structural changes beyond the Ethereum Foundation itself. Last month, the Foundation reduced its workforce by roughly 20% and reorganized operations into five internal clusters. The restructuring also followed the departure of several senior leaders, including two co-executive directors and former Protocol Research and Development heads.

Meanwhile, Joe Lubin, Bitmine, and SharpLink have also supported other independent Ethereum-focused organizations. These include Ethereum Institutional, which helps enterprises build on Ethereum, and EthLabs, which is expected to take on major protocol research and development responsibilities.

According to Lubin, several organizations were expected to emerge as the Ethereum Foundation strengthened its focus on censorship resistance, privacy, security, and open-source development. EthSystems echoed that vision, stating that an independent commercial company can make different business decisions while complementing the Foundation’s long-term priorities.

The founders also noted that they held hundreds of discussions with financial institutions, regulators, and central banks while working within the Ethereum Foundation. Those engagements helped shape the company’s focus on confidential systems designed specifically for institutional Ethereum adoption.

Conclusion

Bitmine, SharpLink, and Joe Lubin have positioned EthSystems as a dedicated commercial partner for institutional Ethereum privacy. The company combines enterprise consulting with open-source development as it works to remove privacy barriers for regulated organizations building on Ethereum.
