Consequently, the President officially becomes a Bitcoin holder and joins the ranks of other leaders including Nayib Bukele – El Salvador President who has been championing the widespread adoption of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

In an exciting development, Samson Mow, the Chief Executive Officer of Pixelmatic and former Chief Strategy Officer of Blockstream, shared his visit to the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro on his X (formerly Twitter) account earlier today.

Sharing a picture of him and Gustavo, he confirmed that he had gifted the President a wallet containing 10,000 satoshis.

Following this, the crypto community has been excited by the news of a potential adoption of the flagship cryptocurrency into the nation’s economic strategy.

Furthermore, the President emphasized that the technology behind cryptocurrencies can be promising to Colombians. In a video recording, the President addressed the people in attendance stating that his government would open some groups in public administration to enhance them through blockchain technology.

“We are going to open some working groups in public administration and the grassroots communities in the associated work cooperatives of the popular economy, to enhance them through these new technologies that have undoubtedly already made their way in the world and will have developments towards the future, that can be promising for the prosperity of the people,” he said.

With the price of Bitcoin hovering around $39k, the worth of the gift presented to President Gustavo is about $39. However, the worth of the gift does not matter, rather, the gesture is important.
