Binance Founder CZ Calls for Crypto Unity as $6.34 Billion Hack Shakes Industry

Summary

  • Binance founder Changpeng Zhao urged cryptocurrency communities to abandon internal rivalries, emphasizing shared market risks and stronger cooperation across projects.
  • Binance restored HYPE and APT withdrawals while reporting $2.85 billion in frozen assets following its massive October cryptocurrency security breach.
  • CZ warned traders about SignalPlus API risks, fraudulent Trust Wallet websites, and mobile security vulnerabilities threatening cryptocurrency holders and investors.

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has urged cryptocurrency communities to abandon internal rivalries, warning that problems affecting individual projects impact everyone. According to CZ’s recent X post, digital assets often move together despite differences in price performance, prompting the Binance founder to call for an industry that remains “decentralized but united.”

CZ Warns Crypto Rivalries Could Hurt the Entire Market

CZ responded to a social media post examining how major exchange crises have affected cryptocurrency markets. The discussion referenced FTX’s 2022 collapse, the 2024 WazirX hack, and a reported security incident involving Bitget.

These examples highlighted how problems involving individual exchanges can affect confidence across the broader cryptocurrency market. CZ argued that competition should not prevent cryptocurrency communities from recognizing their shared exposure to market disruptions.

“Most crypto assets go up and down together,” CZ stated.

Binance’s $6.34 Billion Security Breach Adds Weight to CZ’s Unity Appeal

The appeal followed Binance’s October 29 security breach, which reportedly resulted in approximately $6.34 billion in losses. The incident affected several major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Solana, raising concerns about exchange security.

Binance committed to covering affected customer balances rather than transferring financial losses to users. In its November 3 update, Binance reported freezing approximately $2.85 billion in stolen assets and replenishing 98% of affected tokens.

Meanwhile, Binance’s latest X announcement confirmed that withdrawals for Hyperliquid (HYPE) and Aptos (APT) have resumed. The exchange also confirmed that numerous Ethereum and Solana assets remain available for withdrawals following earlier restoration phases. Additional networks and cryptocurrencies will regain withdrawal services once security checks are completed.

CZ Raises Additional Warnings Over Crypto Security Threats

CZ has also issued cybersecurity warnings concerning risks facing cryptocurrency traders and wallet users. On November 5, the Binance founder advised traders to revoke SignalPlus API keys following reports of a possible breach.

Separately, CZ warned against fraudulent websites impersonating Trust Wallet through misleading domain extensions. The Binance founder also urged iPhone users to install operating system updates following reports of security vulnerabilities.

These warnings reinforced CZ’s broader appeal for cooperation across cryptocurrency communities facing interconnected market and security risks.
