In Brief:
- Canadian XRP ETF options gained US market access, giving institutions regulated tools for managing exposure without directly holding cryptocurrency tokens.
- National Bank of Canada and BMO disclosed modest XRP investments, reflecting cautious institutional adoption through regulated exchange-traded investment wrappers only.
- Canada built its XRP framework through physically backed ETFs, tax-advantaged accounts, derivatives trading, and expanding blockchain infrastructure supporting institutional participation.
Options linked to two Canadian XRP exchange-traded funds have received authorization for sale within the United States market. According to the Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation, the registrations cover the Evolve XRP ETF and Purpose XRP ETF options.
The organization disclosed the development through a Form 8-K filing dated September 9, 2026. Both instruments have traded on the Montreal Exchange since early 2026 under Canada’s established financial framework.
Moreover, they now occupy the same regulated derivatives category as products connected to Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. The registration provides American institutions with another route for obtaining XRP exposure through familiar exchange-traded contracts.
Eligible investors can also use these options to hedge positions or trade XRP volatility without directly holding the cryptocurrency. Federal Register notices provided the regulatory foundation required to offer the Canadian contracts to investors across the United States.
These notices identified XRP as a qualifying digital commodity within the framework governing the registered investment instruments. However, the structure does not represent direct XRP ownership because investors receive exposure through regulated financial products.

Canadian Banks Test Regulated XRP Investment Products
Canada’s major banks have also started reporting limited XRP exposure through regulated funds listed within the United States. National Bank of Canada disclosed an investment worth approximately $330,000 in the Bitwise XRP ETF through regulatory filings.
Meanwhile, Bank of Montreal reported investments in XRP products as part of its broader portfolio diversification activities. Although these allocations remain modest, they indicate growing institutional interest in compliant cryptocurrency investment vehicles.
Banks generally favor regulated wrappers because they provide standardized custody, reporting, pricing, and risk-management systems. Canada established the supporting infrastructure in 2025 by launching North America’s first physically backed spot XRP ETFs.
Those products trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange and follow the transparent CME CF XRP-Dollar Reference Rate. Additionally, eligible Canadian investors can hold XRP ETFs through tax-advantaged accounts, including TFSAs and RRSPs.
Development groups supporting the XRP Ledger have expanded alongside regulatory efforts addressing stablecoins and digital asset oversight. Consequently, Canada has built an ecosystem connecting XRP funds, options, institutional portfolios, and conventional investment accounts.
The latest registrations extend that infrastructure into the American market while regulators refine broader cryptocurrency rules. For XRP, the approval expands institutional access through supervised markets without requiring investors to manage tokens or private wallets.
