Cardano’s Charles Hoskinson Tasks Midnight Team With Building World’s Largest Private Smart Contract Platform

  • Hoskinson challenges Midnight team to build world’s biggest privacy network.
  • Smart contract growth surges 44%, fueling Cardano’s privacy expansion.
  • Midnight eyes 2026 dominance amid Hoskinson’s aggressive development drive.

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has directed the Midnight development team to build what he calls the largest private smart contract platform. His message to the team came after Cardano developer advocate Stevan Lohja confirmed that Midnight is showing rapid technical growth within the ecosystem.

According to Lohja, the Midnight Foundation has been driving the team to expand the network’s capacity and adoption. He explained that activity on the Midnight network has boosted overall usage on Cardano, creating an active environment for developers to experiment and innovate.

Lohja also revealed impressive performance numbers. Smart contract deployments on Midnight rose by 44.6% in the third quarter, while new weekly contract creations increased by 45.4%. These figures show that Midnight is recording significant developer participation and growing confidence in the network.

Hoskinson Pushes for Greater Aggression and Global Leadership

Despite the progress, Charles Hoskinson urged the team to move faster and become even more aggressive in their approach. He wants Midnight to evolve into the world’s leading privacy-focused smart contract platform by the end of 2026.

That means outpacing other privacy-oriented projects such as Secret Network, Oasis Network, which holds about 13.6 percent of the market share, and Aleph Zero, with 6.1 percent.

He understands that these competitors will not stand still while Midnight advances. His frequent reminder to the team, “Every week more aggressive,” underlines the urgency to maintain the current momentum and reach new milestones within the set timeframe.

The network’s privacy initiative was first introduced to selected developers in late 2023 before opening to the public in February 2024. This rollout allowed broader participation from developers who have since contributed to expanding the network’s functionality and visibility across the Cardano ecosystem.

Collaboration and Challenges Ahead

Hoskinson believes the Midnight collaboration with Brave Wallet could reshape online privacy for millions of users. With Brave Wallet’s 84 million users, the integration aims to deliver advanced cryptographic protection while allowing Midnight to serve as a privacy layer across the internet.

However, the journey has not been without challenges. In August 2025, users reported error messages such as “No eligible addresses found or recognized” during Bitcoin claims on the Ledger device. The Midnight team acted swiftly to resolve the issue and retain user confidence in the platform’s reliability.

As the 2026 goal approaches, the broader crypto community will be watching how efficiently the Midnight network scales its technology and meets Hoskinson’s vision of creating the most powerful privacy-smart-contract platform on the market.
