In Brief:
- Mastercard introduced Stablecoin Security to help financial institutions detect fraud, sanctions violations, and other risks before processing blockchain payments securely.
- Borderless.xyz and Keyrails joined Mastercard as initial partners, supporting transaction monitoring across international stablecoin payments and emerging financial markets worldwide.
- Mastercard plans worldwide availability in 2027, with BVNK integration expected to strengthen its stablecoin payment infrastructure and transaction security capabilities.
Mastercard has launched Stablecoin Security, a transaction monitoring service designed to help financial institutions identify risks before processing stablecoin payments. The company unveiled the service at Money20/20 USA on Monday, naming Borderless.xyz and Keyrails as its initial partners.
According to the announcement, the service helps banks identify financial crime risks before blockchain transfers, strengthening fraud prevention and regulatory compliance.
Through an application programming interface, Mastercard provides risk scores that institutions can integrate into their existing monitoring systems. The service examines transaction origins, payment patterns, and potential connections to fraud, scams, sanctions violations, and other financial crimes.
Mastercard Executive Vice President of Security Solutions Ann Johnson emphasized the importance of reliable controls for institutions entering stablecoin markets. Johnson explained that financial institutions require dependable intelligence to manage risks associated with blockchain-based payments.
Research from the Bank for International Settlements also highlights the complexity of monitoring stablecoin transactions across blockchain networks. Its study examined 593 million stablecoin transfer events within 141 million Ethereum transactions during 2025.

Researchers found that nearly 60% of those transfers involved complex, multi-step transactions rather than direct payments. These transaction structures create additional monitoring challenges for financial institutions processing blockchain-based transfers.

Mastercard Expands Stablecoin Security Through Borderless.xyz and Keyrails Partnerships
Mastercard’s partnerships with Borderless.xyz and Keyrails connect its security initiative with companies already operating in international stablecoin payments. Both firms previously participated in Mastercard’s Start Path Blockchain and Digital Assets program.
Borderless.xyz connects financial institutions with licensed stablecoin providers across more than 113 countries and 72 currencies. Meanwhile, Keyrails specializes in high-value international trade payments, particularly across emerging markets requiring cross-border settlement services.
Their participation builds upon Mastercard’s earlier efforts to introduce identity verification and transaction safeguards into blockchain payment networks. In August, Mastercard partnered with Borderless.xyz on a Crypto Credential pilot involving Infinia, Walapay, and Koywe.
That initiative introduced additional trust signals for cross-border stablecoin transfers, supporting Mastercard’s broader payment verification strategy. Stablecoin Security expands these capabilities by assessing transaction risks before financial institutions authorize blockchain payments.
Mastercard Plans Global Stablecoin Security Rollout Following BVNK Acquisition
Mastercard has strengthened its stablecoin infrastructure through its acquisition of BVNK, which the company completed in August. The acquisition followed a March agreement that valued the stablecoin infrastructure provider at up to $1.8 billion.
As reported by 36Crypto, Mastercard introduced its Global Money Platform through its first major integration of BVNK’s technology. The platform combines traditional currency accounts, stablecoin services, real-time conversions, card payments, and local bank payouts through one API.
Additionally, Mastercard expects to incorporate BVNK into its Stablecoin Security plans during 2027. This integration would connect the company’s expanding payment infrastructure with its transaction monitoring capabilities.
Mastercard plans to introduce Stablecoin Security initially across North America, with worldwide commercial availability expected in 2027. The expansion will make its risk assessment service available to more financial institutions processing stablecoin payments across international markets.
