Ripple Labs Onboards New Attorney as the SEC Lawsuit Continues

Blockchain payment company, Ripple Labs reportedly onboards a new attorney to make up for the exit of some of its defense lawyers over the past few months. As its defense against the Securities and Exchange Commission continues, Ripple has hired an experienced lawyer who is to play a key role in the ongoing lawsuit.

According to the update which was made known by Attorney James K. Filan, a legal expert tracking the Ripple vs SEC case, the newly hired lawyer is litigation counsel Douglas S. Zolkind.

Zolkind is a New York-based attorney and is a member of Debevoise & Plimpton White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group. He has a very impressive career that focuses on government and internal investigations.

Mr. Zolkind previously worked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) as an Assistant United States Attorney prior to joining Debevoise. Furthermore, he worked as a litigation associate in another international law firm before joining SDNY.

Even though Ripple recently witnessed some exits from its defense team, its case appears to not have been affected. In fact, one of its recent exits came a few days before Judge Torres ruled in favor of Ripple where she declared XRP as not a security.

The real reason for their exit has not yet been communicated at press time, but it is obvious the blockchain company has been scouting around for qualified replacements.

The Ripple vs SEC case continues

Notwithstanding the recent ruling in favor of Ripple, the company is still not off the site of the regulatory watchdog. In fact, the Commission has already hinted at a possible appeal of the ruling.

Ripple Labs continues to stay focused on its defense even though there is a possibility of the case coming to an end soon. It has continued to assemble the best legal to fight its case and ensure it comes out victorious. Zolkind’s contribution to the defense will be invaluable given his extensive and impressive career.
