RLUSD expands AI payment role with Google and Mastercard protocol support

Ripple USD (RLUSD) is expanding its role in AI-powered payments through support for Google and Mastercard payment protocols. According to Chandler Fang, cofounder of t54ai, the stablecoin’s compatibility with x402 and mainstream agentic standards could eventually support hundreds and later millions of AI-driven merchants and digital services.


According to Fang in a post on X, RLUSD already supports x402 while remaining compatible with leading agentic payment protocols. He explained that this combination gives the stablecoin a stronger foundation as businesses increasingly adopt AI-powered financial services.


His remarks also coincided with RLUSD’s growing presence in South Korea. The stablecoin recently secured listings on Upbit and Bithumb after earlier launches on Coinone and Korbit. Consequently, users can now access RLUSD through all four of the country’s major cryptocurrency exchanges.


Besides expanding exchange availability, Ripple has been developing infrastructure that enables AI agents to complete financial transactions on the XRP Ledger. That strategy reflects the company’s effort to position RLUSD beyond conventional stablecoin payments.

Ripple strengthens RLUSD with AI payment infrastructure

Ripple introduced the XRPL AI Starter Kit in June to help developers build applications for agentic payments. The toolkit supports x402-powered payments using both XRP and RLUSD across a range of digital services.


As a result, AI agents can automatically pay for APIs, cloud computing resources, software subscriptions, and other online services. Additionally, developers can integrate programmable payments without relying on traditional payment networks.


Ripple also supports Mastercard’s Verifiable Intent framework for agent payments on the XRP Ledger. The standard creates a tamper-resistant record showing exactly what a user approved before an AI agent completes a transaction.


Moreover, Verifiable Intent aligns with Google’s Agent Payments Protocol and the Universal Commerce Protocol. According to Fang, that interoperability allows RLUSD to operate across multiple AI payment environments while remaining protocol agnostic.


RLUSD also addresses payment scenarios requiring stable dollar-denominated values. Businesses can use the stablecoin for payroll, invoice settlements, subscriptions, and agent-to-agent transactions without exposure to significant price volatility.


Enterprise adoption expands RLUSD ecosystem

Ripple has also been extending RLUSD into enterprise payment platforms through strategic integrations. Earlier this month, AI-powered banking and cross-border payments platform Nuvion incorporated RLUSD into its infrastructure for businesses and fintech companies. The integration expands the stablecoin’s utility across cross-border payments and AI-driven financial applications.


Furthermore, RLUSD benefits from the XRP Ledger’s existing payment infrastructure. The same transaction mechanisms supporting XRP also process RLUSD transfers, while the XRPL decentralized exchange allows users to convert the stablecoin into other supported digital assets.


Ripple has also joined the Linux Foundation’s x402 Foundation alongside Google, Mastercard, Visa, Amazon Web Services, and more than 35 other organizations. The initiative aims to establish open payment standards for AI agents and internet applications using interoperable payment frameworks.
