US and UK Form Joint Alliance to Dismantle Global Crypto Scam Centers

Summary

  • US and UK alliance coordinates investigations, intelligence sharing, and prosecutions against global scam centers using cryptocurrency investment fraud schemes.
  • Authorities will target organized crime, money laundering, and human trafficking networks operating fraudulent compounds, particularly across Southeast Asia and beyond.
  • Reported crypto investment fraud losses reached $8.65 billion in 2025, while officials believe unreported losses remain considerably higher across markets.

The United States and United Kingdom have launched a joint alliance targeting global scam centers behind cryptocurrency investment fraud. A newly signed memorandum of understanding establishes coordinated investigations, information sharing, and prosecution planning between both countries.

The partnership connects the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia with Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service and National Crime Agency. Under the agreement, prosecutors and investigators will run parallel cases against networks operating scam compounds across several jurisdictions.

Additionally, both sides will exchange intelligence about priority targets, financial facilitators, trafficking networks, and cryptocurrency laundering channels. Officials will also coordinate decisions regarding where to prosecute suspects whose operations, victims, or assets cross national borders.

Authorities will prioritize transnational groups linked to Chinese organized crime, cyber-enabled fraud, money laundering, and human trafficking. Many scam compounds recruit workers through deceptive employment offers before forcing them to participate in online investment schemes. Criminal operators often contact victims through social platforms and messaging applications, gradually building trust before introducing fraudulent investments.

Joint Operations Target Organized Crime and Human Trafficking Networks

They then direct victims toward fabricated cryptocurrency platforms that display false profits while blocking withdrawals and demanding further payments. Moreover, investigators plan to trace stolen assets through wallets, exchanges, intermediaries, and financial accounts supporting these criminal networks.

US and UK agencies will hold an in-person disruption event with private-sector partners in London during early October. Significantly, the agreement expands the work of the US Scam Center Strike Force, established in November 2025.

Its operations have concentrated particularly on Southeast Asia, where authorities have identified extensive compounds serving international fraud networks. FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center data shows reported crypto investment fraud losses reached $8.65 billion during 2025.

That figure represented an 89% increase from 2023, highlighting the growing financial impact of organized cryptocurrency scams. However, authorities believe total losses remain considerably higher because many victims avoid reporting fraud through embarrassment or uncertainty.

Consequently, coordinated prosecutions could disrupt operators, recover stolen assets, and weaken financial systems supporting international scam compounds. The alliance gives both governments a formal structure for pursuing shared targets, recovering assets, and dismantling scam center operations.
