Vitalik Buterin’s latest blog post, “Possible Futures of the Ethereum Protocol,” has stirred significant interest within the blockchain community. The post delves into Ethereum’s future, mainly focusing on “The Verge” upgrade, a crucial development for enhancing decentralization and making full-verifying nodes more accessible. He pointed out that other features, like the ones mentioned above, have already been incorporated via RISC Zero, and he noted that it has explicit support for parallel proofs, which are crucial for halting and occasionally computing. RISC Zero’s Role in Advancing ZK Technology
Bruestle got a response from Buterin that underlined the significance of the efficiency of compression algorithms working on vast datasets. Buterin pointed out that when one has to process 1 MB of data in 1 second, one would need 16,000 compression functions per second and that attaining even 4 times more of that 160,000 functions per second would be next level. He encouraged the team at RISC Zero and supported his words with, “Appreciate your work.”
The conversation extended to Verkle Trees, a technology aimed at improving data storage and verification within the Ethereum network. Crypto supporter Paolo Rebuffo urged the ETH community to decide soon regarding adopting Verkle Trees within Ethereum clients. In response, Rebuffo expressed his concerns about having scarce resources to achieve these benefits and cautioned the Ethereum team to consider these gains concerning other emerging projects on Ethereum.
In response, Buterin explained that approximately 75% of the work on Verkle Tree implementation focuses on shared components such as tree keys, gas cost adjustments, and transition processes. These features will be essential across various implementations, including Verkle, Poseidon, and Blake binary.
