XRP Ledger Upgrade Package Moves Closer to Vote With Six Proposed Amendments

Key Takeaways:

  • XRP Ledger upgrade package introduces six proposed amendments adding privacy, delegation, sponsored fees, batch transactions, and performance improvements for validators.
  • Vet indicated that security work resumed, allowing development to progress while strengthening network reliability through infrastructure optimizations and bundled fixes.
  • Reserve requirements remain essential because storage resources protect XRPL against spam attacks despite past reductions, Vet argued during discussions.

The XRP Ledger is moving closer to a major protocol upgrade that could introduce six new amendments to the network. According to prominent XRPL validator Vet, the package may be ready for validator voting within about two weeks if the remaining development process stays on schedule.

The proposed release combines new transaction features with infrastructure improvements and a bundled bug fix. Additionally, it includes performance optimizations designed to improve node efficiency and strengthen network reliability. According to Vet, the package features Batch Transactions, Confidential Transfers, Sponsored Fees and Reserves, Permission Delegation, and Dynamic Multi-Purpose Tokens.

New features target efficiency, privacy, and developer flexibility

Batch Transactions will allow users to combine multiple transactions into one operation, making payment processing more efficient. Consequently, developers and businesses could simplify complex transaction workflows while reducing processing costs.

Confidential Transfers will conceal transaction amounts without affecting the integrity of the XRP Ledger. Moreover, the feature maintains transaction verification while providing greater financial privacy for users.

According to Vet, Sponsored Fees and Reserves under XLS-68 will let third parties pay transaction fees and reserve requirements for other users. Permission Delegation will also enable account owners to grant limited permissions without giving away complete control.

Additionally, Dynamic Multi-Purpose Tokens will expand the flexibility of XRPL’s token standard and support more advanced blockchain applications. Beyond these additions, the release includes performance improvements that are expected to reduce resource consumption and improve validator efficiency across the network.

Reserve debate gains momentum before proposed changes

Alongside the upgrade, discussion has returned to XRP Ledger reserve requirements. Vet noted that he does not support lowering reserves further despite previous reductions over the years. He explained that activating an XRPL account once required 1,000 XRP before dropping to 200 XRP in 2013. Validators later approved several additional reductions, bringing the current base reserve to 1 XRP.

According to Vet, storage and memory remain valuable network resources, especially as artificial intelligence increases demand for computing infrastructure. He added that reserve requirements were originally designed to protect the XRP Ledger from spam and distributed denial-of-service attacks. Preserving those safeguards, he argued, remains important even as the network prepares for its next major upgrade.
