XRP Ledger Version 3.4.0 Adds Lending Upgrade and Bundled Fixes

XRP Ledger developers have released version 3.4.0 with performance improvements, stability upgrades, and two amendments for validator voting. According to XRPL validator Vet, the release introduces Lending Protocol v1.1 and a bundled amendment known as fixCleanup.

Vet encouraged validators supporting XLS-66 to also vote for Lending Protocol v1.1, which introduces closed-ended vaults operating within predetermined periods. It also adds cash-basis accounting, recording financial activity when payments move, while preserving validator control over the proposed lending infrastructure.

However, inclusion within version 3.4.0 does not activate amendments automatically, as validator approval and the required consensus threshold remain necessary. Version 3.4.0 also introduces fixCleanup, which combines several technical corrections to strengthen numerous XRP Ledger features through coordinated fixes. Consequently, operators can evaluate related corrections together rather than handling several smaller amendments separately.

Server Performance and Stability Receive Major Improvements

Beyond amendment voting, version 3.4.0 contains several changes designed to improve server performance and operational reliability. One adjustment changes how online deletion operates whenever a server discovers gaps within its recent ledger history.

Online deletion helps node operators manage storage by removing older ledger data that servers no longer require for routine operations. Previously, servers could remove older information while gaps remained within their more recent transaction records.

Under version 3.4.0, online deletion pauses whenever the software identifies missing sections within a server’s ledger history. Consequently, affected nodes can recover missing information before resuming database cleanup and removing older records.

The release also improves checks involving Multi-Purpose Tokens by reducing repeated ledger reads during frozen-asset verification. Additionally, stronger validation protects servers against oversized transaction messages and unusual values within selected transaction fields.

Developers also improved the handling of incoming peer data and added safeguards against resource-intensive database operations. These measures can help servers process information efficiently while limiting disruptions caused by unusual inputs or technical edge cases.

Moreover, the update modernizes portions of the codebase, replaces older libraries, and strengthens testing infrastructure for future development. Several maintenance changes also improve software organization, making the server code easier for developers to test and manage.

XRPL Foundation Distributes Updated Software Packages

The XRP Ledger Foundation now distributes the software packages needed to install version 3.4.0 on network servers. According to Vet, operators must run several additional commands before updating because the package distribution process has changed.

Therefore, server operators should review the official manual installation instructions before beginning an upgrade on Ubuntu systems. Following those instructions can help operators configure the new package source correctly and avoid installation problems.

Timely installation will also prepare nodes for amendment voting and reduce compatibility risks if validators approve the proposals. Servers running outdated software may eventually lose connectivity when the network adopts protocol rules they cannot process.

However, ordinary XRP users will experience most of these changes indirectly because server operators manage the required technical work. Version 3.4.0 strengthens the XRP Ledger’s infrastructure while advancing lending functionality and coordinated protocol maintenance.
