XRP Open Interest Jumps 29% on Binance as Sellers Dominate Futures Market

In Brief:

  • XRP open interest on Binance climbed 28.6% to $232.7 million, reaching its highest level since June despite persistent price weakness.
  • Binance XRP Perpetual CVD fell to negative $463.2 million, indicating aggressive sellers remained stronger than buyers as futures participation increased.
  • XRP’s $0.98 retest and bearish derivatives positioning suggest rising open interest reflects greater participation rather than confirmed bullish market conviction.

XRP open interest on Binance has climbed nearly 29% in two weeks, reflecting increased activity across the token’s derivatives market. According to CoinGlass, open interest increased from roughly $181 million on August 3 to $232.7 million on August 17.

The 28.6% increase pushed Binance XRP futures open interest to its highest level since June 2026, despite persistent weakness in XRP’s price. XRP recently retested $0.98 amid sustained selling pressure, meaning higher open interest does not necessarily signal expectations of an immediate price rebound.

Instead, other derivatives indicators suggest bearish positioning may account for a substantial portion of the additional contracts. Open interest measures outstanding positions but does not identify whether traders favor long or short exposure.

Selling Pressure Challenges Bullish XRP Futures Signal

XRP’s seven-day open interest change provides further evidence of increased positioning on Binance. The figure stood near negative $40 million on July 29 before reversing considerably during August. By August 17, the seven-day change had reached positive $38.9 million, as traders added leveraged positions while XRP remained under pressure.

Meanwhile, Binance’s XRP Perpetual Cumulative Volume Delta fell to approximately negative $463.2 million, measuring the balance between aggressive buying and selling activity. A negative reading shows aggressive sellers have outweighed buyers despite growing futures participation, weakening a straightforward bullish interpretation of the 29% increase.

Moreover, rising open interest alongside negative CVD can indicate traders are increasing bearish exposure while selling activity remains dominant. Such positioning could also increase volatility if XRP makes a strong move in either direction.

However, open interest alone cannot confirm that every additional position represents bearish exposure. Some traders could also establish long positions around lower price levels. The broader derivatives picture therefore remains mixed as market participation grows while sellers retain greater influence. XRP would need stronger buying activity to change that balance.

At the moment, a 28.6% increase highlights stronger participation rather than confirmed bullish conviction. Negative CVD indicates sellers still command significant influence across Binance’s XRP derivatives market.
