Shockwaves have hit the global crypto community after reports confirmed the unexplained disappearance of the Satoshi Nakamoto statue in Lugano, Switzerland. The sculpture, unveiled during last year’s Plan B Forum, had stood as a tribute to the anonymous founder of Bitcoin and a symbol of blockchain innovation.
The statue was displayed prominently at the location where the Plan B Forum took place. It was part of a larger effort by the city of Lugano, in collaboration with Tether, to support cryptocurrency adoption and bring blockchain technology to the attention of people in the region. The statue became a landmark that drew the attention of tourists and crypto enthusiasts to the place.

Nevertheless, the statue is lost, as photos and videos posted on social media in the recent past depict an empty platform that was occupied by the figure. No traces of apparent tampering with the results can be traced; neither have the local authorities nor the event organizations given any explanation.
As Adam Back (former CEO of Blockstream and early contributor to Bitcoin) stated at the time, the irony of it all was not lost. On X, he wrote, Satoshi vanished. Again,” alluding to the mysterious disappearance of the founder as he became a recluse in 2011, when he commented that he had moved on to other things.
Statue Disappearance Deepens the Mystery Around Bitcoin’s Creator
The statue’s sudden absence has ignited debate across crypto forums and news platforms. Rumours have spread that the statue was stolen, but some say it was removed or transferred by design. However, there has been no official explanation, so the situation can be interpreted.
Other Nakamoto commemorations include one in Tokyo and a recent unveiling in Fornelli, Italy. These monuments remind us of the legacy left by the creator of Bitcoin, who is still changing the face of the financial economy worldwide.
Bitcoin currently trades at $113,583, reflecting the massive growth since its early days when Nakamoto’s quote, “If you don’t believe me or don’t get it, I don’t have time to try to convince you,” was first shared.
The mystery surrounding the vanished statue in Lugano has left the crypto world stunned. Without answers, it has become yet another unsolved chapter in Satoshi Nakamoto’s legend.
