In Brief:
- Hunter Biden plans to launch LAPTOP on Base, with founders receiving 30% of the token’s one-billion-unit supply under scheduled vesting.
- Twenty percent will reward selected communities, including TRUMP investors, Substack subscribers, and contacts from Andrew Callaghan’s curated mailing list directly.
- Cooling meme coin demand and TRUMP’s 97% collapse create major tests for LAPTOP’s liquidity, governance, transparency, and lasting market appeal.
Hunter Biden plans to launch a meme coin named LAPTOP on Coinbase’s Base blockchain on September 9. According to The Wall Street Journal, the project draws its identity from the controversy surrounding Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop.
The token will have one billion units, combining political branding with the speculative culture surrounding celebrity-backed cryptocurrencies. Hunter Biden and other founders will collectively receive 30% of the supply under a scheduled vesting arrangement.
That structure will gradually release their holdings rather than making the entire allocation available immediately following the launch. Moreover, the project will distribute 20% of LAPTOP across wallets connected to several selected groups and communities.
Recipients will include investors who lost money trading Official Trump (TRUMP), the meme coin endorsed by President Donald Trump. Hunter Biden’s Substack subscribers and a mailing list curated by journalist Andrew Callaghan will also qualify for distributions. However, available details do not explain how organizers will verify TRUMP losses or determine each eligible recipient’s allocation.

Other portions of the supply will support liquidity, charitable programs, and the foundation responsible for managing the project. Meanwhile, organizers have not identified the charities receiving funds or disclosed how much supply each beneficiary will obtain.
LAPTOP enters a political meme coin market already shaped by President Trump’s involvement with cryptocurrency and digital assets. His TRUMP token attracted substantial interest around his inauguration before losing almost 97% of its highest recorded value. Consequently, Hunter Biden’s project must attract traders during a period when broader enthusiasm for meme coins has cooled.
Hunter Biden Expands His Cryptocurrency Presence
Hunter Biden has posted supportive cryptocurrency messages on X and made favorable comments about digital assets during interviews. Additionally, he accepts Bitcoin (BTC) as payment for artwork, linking part of his commercial activity directly with cryptocurrency.
His reported interest in seeking the presidency in 2028 adds another political dimension to the project’s branding and launch. Nevertheless, LAPTOP’s performance will depend on trading demand, available liquidity, transparent governance, and compliance with vesting commitments. The project also connects Hunter Biden’s political profile with cryptocurrency while using a controversy as its central identity.
