In Brief:
- Paragon halted PAPER perpetual futures trading following Papertrade’s decision to abandon token transferability plans outlined in its October launch roadmap.
- All outstanding PAPER positions settled at $0.026296, while Paragon canceled open orders and released remaining margin to affected trading accounts.
- Papertrade’s revised transferability plans eliminated the expected spot market, leaving any potential reopening dependent on future changes to those plans.
Paragon has halted PAPER pre-launch perpetual futures trading following Papertrade’s decision to abandon plans for token transferability. According to Paragon’s October 20 announcement, the exchange settled outstanding positions after Papertrade’s revised plans undermined the contract’s trading basis.
The decision affected PAPER derivatives traders, with Paragon settling open positions at $0.026296 and releasing remaining account margin. Paragon originally listed PAPER based on Papertrade’s October 1 roadmap, which outlined plans to make the token transferable.
The exchange expected its pre-launch perpetual contract to become a standard perpetual once spot trading became available. PaperTrade’s revised position removed that expected transition, leaving the derivatives contract without an eventual spot price for reference.

Paragon Settles PAPER Positions at $0.026296 Following Immediate Trading Halt
Paragon suspended PAPER trading at 22:31:15 UTC immediately following Papertrade’s announcement, establishing a common cutoff for outstanding positions. Instead of scheduling a delayed closure, the exchange halted trading immediately to limit activity surrounding the unexpected announcement.
According to Paragon, traders had entered positions based on Papertrade’s publicly available roadmap supporting future token trading. The exchange calculated its settlement price using the time-weighted average oracle price during the hour preceding the trading halt.
Consequently, all outstanding contracts settled at $0.026296, establishing a uniform pricing reference across affected trading accounts. Paragon adopted the same one-hour averaging window used during Hyperliquid’s validator-led delistings of HyperCore perpetual contracts.
Additionally, the exchange canceled outstanding orders and released unused margin, and account balances reflect realized profits and losses. Affected traders do not need to submit requests or complete additional procedures to receive their remaining margin.
Papertrade’s Revised Token Plans Leave PAPER Market Reopening Uncertain
Meanwhile, Papertrade explained that PAPER plays a more integrated economic role within its protocol than many conventional cryptocurrency tokens. The project also highlighted risk management complexities associated with its structure while explaining its decision against token transferability. Without planned transferability, PAPER lacks the expected spot market that originally supported Paragon’s pre-launch derivatives listing.
Paragon indicated that changes to Papertrade’s transferability plans could prompt another review of the suspended market. Paragon has completed PAPER settlements, but any potential market reopening depends on changes to Papertrade’s token plans.
