Bitcoin retail deposits on Gate surged as BTC climbed from approximately $64,000 toward $80,000, raising concerns about possible profit-taking activity. According to CryptoQuant analyst Maartunn, Gate recorded more than 11 major retail deposit spikes between August 23 and August 30. Hourly deposits reached $11.33 million on August 29, marking the highest level recorded during 2026.
CryptoQuant’s chart compares Bitcoin’s price with deposits from several wallet groups using Gate. It covers transfers below 0.001 BTC and deposits between 0.001 BTC and 0.01 BTC. Additionally, it tracks transactions ranging from 0.1 BTC to 1 BTC and between 1 BTC and 10 BTC. However, inflows became larger and more frequent as Bitcoin recovered and approached $80,000 during August.

Rising Gate Inflows Signal Possible Profit-Taking
Exchange inflows often indicate that holders may prepare to sell because deposited coins become readily available for trading. Consequently, the Gate activity could represent investors securing gains accumulated during Bitcoin’s roughly 25% advance from $64,000.
Wallets depositing between 1 BTC and 10 BTC contributed heavily to the latest inflow cluster. Transfers from the 0.1 BTC to 1 BTC group also increased significantly. Therefore, the activity extended beyond holders moving very small balances.
Persistent selling from these groups could pressure Bitcoin if buyers fail to absorb additional supply around $80,000. Nevertheless, Maartunn cautioned that deposits do not automatically translate into direct Bitcoin selling.

Gate provides access to cryptocurrencies, stocks and commodities, giving customers several reasons to deposit capital. Some traders could use deposited assets as derivatives collateral, while others may rotate funds into altcoins. Moreover, customers could prepare for stock or commodity trades without immediately selling Bitcoin.
The $11.33 million reading therefore measures potential selling capacity rather than confirmed sales. Gate also represents only one portion of the global cryptocurrency market. Similar inflow growth across other exchanges would provide stronger evidence of widespread distribution.
That comparison would clarify whether depositors are selling or repositioning their capital. Overall, Gate’s retail deposit surge shows that Bitcoin’s rally encouraged greater trading activity. Yet the available data does not confirm an immediate market reversal.
