- UAE banks expand custody, tokenized deposits, digital bonds, and stablecoin infrastructure, strengthening regulated cryptocurrency services across the institutional financial sector.
Standard Chartered has launched institutional Bitcoin and Ether spot trading through its Dubai International Financial Centre entity. According to the bank’s announcement, it is the first G-SIB offering deliverable cryptocurrency trading to institutional clients across the Gulf.
Clients can trade BTC/USD and ETH/USD pairs through the bank’s infrastructure, while deliverable spot transactions transfer purchased assets instead of cash settlements. Consequently, institutions can obtain cryptocurrency exposure through a regulated banking partner.
The UAE launch extends a service Standard Chartered introduced through its United Kingdom branch in July 2025, making the lender the first G-SIB providing institutional cryptocurrency trading. Moreover, the Dubai expansion brings this banking model into a regional digital asset market.
Standard Chartered’s trading desk supports its cryptocurrency custody, trading, and tokenization strategy, while its Corporate and Investment Bank oversees these institutional capabilities. Additionally, the ventures division supports platforms, including Zodia Markets and tokenization company Libeara.
Zodia Markets provides digital asset trading services, while Libeara helps businesses create tokenized financial instruments, extending Standard Chartered’s institutional market presence.

Other UAE Banks Build Tokenization Infrastructure
Several banks have expanded their digital asset services across the UAE. Bank of New York Mellon introduced Bitcoin and Ether custody services in Abu Dhabi earlier in 2026. Meanwhile, HSBC launched tokenized deposits for corporate clients within the country during June.
First Abu Dhabi Bank has tested tokenized deposits and participated in digital bond and stablecoin projects. Significantly, these initiatives show that banking interest extends beyond cryptocurrency trading into blockchain settlement infrastructure.
However, Standard Chartered’s spot service remains limited to institutional clients rather than retail cryptocurrency traders. Eligible investors can access Bitcoin and Ether without depending on specialized cryptocurrency exchanges. Hence, the offering may reduce barriers for institutions requiring regulated counterparties, established compliance procedures, and banking controls.
Standard Chartered’s expansion strengthens the UAE’s position within institutional digital finance. It also connects cryptocurrency trading with custody and tokenization under one banking strategy.
