Metaplanet Bets 2,100 BTC on Superplanet to Launch U.S. Bitcoin Treasury

Metaplanet Bets 2,100 BTC on Superplanet to Launch U.S. Bitcoin Treasury

Summary

  • Metaplanet committed 2,100 BTC, worth approximately $132 million, to establish Superplanet as its planned United States Bitcoin treasury platform business.
  • Super League will become Superplanet, retain its Nasdaq listing under SUPA, and operate its advertising business alongside Bitcoin treasury activities.
  • Superplanet requires shareholder approval, Nasdaq filings, and regulatory processes before the companies expect their proposed transaction to close during Q4 2026.

Metaplanet has committed 2,100 BTC to Superplanet as part of its plan to establish a U.S. Bitcoin treasury platform. According to Metaplanet’s announcement on X, the investment forms part of its proposed transaction with Nasdaq-listed Super League Enterprise.

The 2,100 BTC commitment is valued at approximately $132 million and represents about 4.9% of Metaplanet’s Bitcoin holdings. Metaplanet currently holds approximately 43,000 BTC, providing substantial reserves while allowing the company to pursue its planned American expansion.

Significantly, the transaction would give Metaplanet exposure to the U.S. public market through a company holding Bitcoin on its balance sheet. Moreover, the investment represents another component of Metaplanet’s broader strategy to build businesses around its substantial corporate Bitcoin reserves.

Super League to Become Superplanet Under Proposed Deal

Under the proposed transaction, Super League will change its corporate name to Superplanet, Inc. as part of the planned restructuring. Additionally, the company will remain listed on Nasdaq and operate under the new ticker SUPA once the transaction reaches completion.

Super League’s existing advertising and media operations will remain active as a separate business segment alongside the planned Bitcoin treasury operation. Consequently, Superplanet would combine an operating business with substantial Bitcoin holdings rather than functioning exclusively as a treasury holding vehicle.

Metaplanet would also retain most of its Bitcoin reserves despite allocating 2,100 BTC toward establishing the proposed U.S. treasury company. Based on its current holdings, the Japanese company would retain approximately 40,900 BTC without considering any additional purchases or treasury adjustments.

Superplanet Transaction Targets Q4 2026 Completion

However, several corporate and regulatory requirements must be completed before Superplanet can formally begin operating as a Bitcoin treasury company. The transaction remains subject to shareholder approval, Nasdaq filings, and other customary processes involving authorities in Japan and the United States.

Metaplanet has not disclosed a specific launch date because these requirements must be satisfied before the restructuring can become effective. Nevertheless, the companies expect the transaction to close during the fourth quarter of 2026 if all necessary conditions receive approval.

Superplanet could then operate as Metaplanet’s U.S. Bitcoin treasury platform while maintaining its Nasdaq listing and existing operating business. Metaplanet’s 2,100 BTC commitment places Bitcoin at the center of its planned Superplanet expansion into the U.S. public market. The deal would establish a Nasdaq-listed treasury platform while allowing Metaplanet to retain most of its existing 43,000 BTC reserve.
