Ripple Partners With Meritz Securities to Bring Digital Asset Custody to South Korea

In Brief:

  • Ripple has partnered with Meritz Securities to explore institutional digital asset custody and tokenization services within South Korea’s capital markets.
  • Meritz Securities is evaluating tokenized securities, fractional investments, spot ETFs, and stablecoins as part of its broader digital asset strategy.
  • Ripple now has four institutional partnerships in South Korea, while further expansion depends on regulatory developments and infrastructure integration plans.

Ripple has partnered with Meritz Securities to explore institutional digital asset custody and tokenization opportunities in South Korea’s capital markets. According to its official statement, the agreement marks Ripple’s fourth Korean institutional partnership this year and its first with a securities firm.

The partnership could expand investor access to regulated digital investment products, including tokenized securities and fractional investments, through blockchain infrastructure. Both companies will initially explore Ripple Custody and its tokenization technology within Meritz’s existing securities operations, with plans to expand as South Korea’s regulatory framework develops.

Ripple Custody provides financial institutions with secure infrastructure for storing, transferring, and settling digital assets, reducing the need to develop independent custody systems.

Meritz Securities Explores Tokenized Investments and Digital Asset Opportunities

Meritz Securities is evaluating several digital asset business opportunities as South Korea prepares to integrate blockchain technology into regulated financial services. These opportunities include spot exchange-traded funds, fractional investments, security tokens, digital asset trading platforms, and Korean won-denominated stablecoins.

The agreement supports Meritz’s broader efforts to develop financial products that combine traditional securities operations with blockchain infrastructure. Ripple’s Asia Pacific Managing Director Fiona Murray highlighted growing institutional interest in practical blockchain applications across South Korea’s financial sector.

“Korea is one of the most dynamic digital asset markets in the world and its institutions are preparing to move from exploration to real-world utility,” she said.

Murray also noted that Ripple operates across more than 60 markets globally and holds over 85 regulatory licenses. Meanwhile, Byungha Kang, Managing Director of Meritz Securities Strategic Planning, emphasized the importance of combining Ripple’s infrastructure with Meritz’s capital markets expertise. He pointed to the next step, saying that “as Korea’s regulatory framework evolves, we will prepare safe and trusted digital asset financial services in stages.”

Ripple Expands Institutional Partnerships Across South Korea

The Meritz agreement strengthens Ripple’s institutional presence in South Korea, where the company has established partnerships across banking and insurance. Kyobo Life Insurance uses Ripple Custody to support a project that uses blockchain technology to settle tokenized government bonds.

Similarly, Kbank is deploying digital asset wallet infrastructure through Ripple Custody to support its institutional digital asset operations. Jeonbuk Bank has also adopted Ripple Payments for cross-border remittances, extending Ripple’s services into South Korea’s regional banking sector.

Together, these partnerships expand Ripple’s institutional network across securities, banking, and insurance while supporting blockchain integration into existing financial services.

Ripple and Meritz Plan Gradual Expansion Under Korean Regulations

Both companies intend to broaden their cooperation as South Korea develops additional regulations governing digital assets and tokenized financial products. Future developments will depend on regulatory changes and the integration of Ripple’s custody and tokenization infrastructure into Meritz’s securities operations.
