- Trump eased national security concerns after Anthropic restricted advanced models.
- John Jumper left DeepMind and announced plans to join Anthropic.
- Anthropic strengthened policy standing and research talent within days.
Anthropic gained ground this week with two developments that strengthened its position in the artificial intelligence industry. U.S. President Donald Trump eased concerns about the company following a dispute over advanced AI models. Meanwhile, Nobel Prize-winning scientist John Jumper confirmed plans to leave Google DeepMind and join Anthropic.
The combination of political relief and a high-profile recruitment provided Anthropic with momentum as competition among leading AI companies continues to intensify. Both developments arrived within days of each other and reinforced the company’s growing influence in the sector.

Trump Relaxes Pressure on Anthropic
According to comments made by Trump during an interview with “The Axios Show,” he no longer views Anthropic or its chief executive, Dario Amodei, as a national security concern. The president said his concerns had eased following the company’s response to export control directives involving its advanced AI systems.
The dispute centered on foreign access to Anthropic’s Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models. The company restricted access to both models after receiving instructions tied to government export controls. Trump praised Amodei for responding quickly and responsibly to the administration’s request.
Consequently, the White House appears less likely to pursue stronger measures against the company. Although Trump did not completely rule out invoking the Defense Production Act, his remarks suggested that such action may no longer be necessary.
Moreover, senior Anthropic technical staff are expected to continue discussions with administration officials regarding AI security and compliance measures. The softer tone emerged following meetings between Trump, technology executives, and other world leaders during a summit in France.
An Anthropic spokesperson said the company remains committed to protecting critical infrastructure while supporting continued U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence.
John Jumper’s Move Adds Scientific Firepower
Anthropic’s second gain came through the recruitment of John Jumper, one of the most respected researchers in artificial intelligence and computational biology. Jumper shared the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with DeepMind chief Demis Hassabis for developing AlphaFold. The artificial intelligence system predicts protein structures and has transformed biological research across several scientific fields.
AlphaFold has generated predictions for more than 200 million protein structures worldwide. As a result, researchers have accelerated work in medicine, genetics, and drug discovery. According to Jumper, his recent work at Google focused largely on AI coding tools rather than the scientific research that earned him international recognition. He described DeepMind as a special place and said he plans to take a brief break before joining Anthropic.
DeepMind Faces Another Senior Exit
Anthropic has not disclosed Jumper’s future role within the company. However, his move represents another notable departure from Google DeepMind at a time when competition for top AI talent remains intense.
Reports indicate that Jumper is the third senior DeepMind researcher to leave the organization within the past three months. His arrival strengthens Anthropic‘s research credentials and adds further weight to its long-term ambitions in artificial intelligence.
Anthropic closed the week with gains on two important fronts. Trump’s softer stance reduced immediate regulatory uncertainty, while Jumper’s move from DeepMind brought one of the field’s most accomplished scientists into the company’s growing research team.
