Morgan Stanley launches lowest-fee Ethereum and Solana ETFs with staking strategy

Morgan Stanley launches lowest-fee Ethereum and Solana ETFs with staking strategy

What to Know

  • Morgan Stanley launched Ethereum and Solana ETFs featuring record-low 0.14% management fees, expanding its regulated cryptocurrency investment product lineup significantly.
  • Ethereum’s ETF combines direct Ether holdings with staking rewards, while the Solana fund tracks spot performance through direct SOL ownership.
  • Both funds launched with 50,000 outstanding shares and over $1 million in assets, offering regulated cryptocurrency exposure through brokerages.

Morgan Stanley has expanded its cryptocurrency investment offerings by launching Ethereum and Solana exchange-traded funds with the lowest management fees in their respective categories. The move strengthens the Wall Street firm’s presence in the digital asset market while giving investors additional regulated crypto investment options.

According to Senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, both ETFs carry a 0.14% management fee, making them the cheapest products ever introduced in the Ethereum and Solana ETF markets. The aggressive pricing strategy places Morgan Stanley among the most competitive issuers as demand for cryptocurrency investment products grows.

Each fund will begin trading with 50,000 outstanding shares and initial assets exceeding $1 million. Moreover, the launch expands Morgan Stanley’s digital asset portfolio beyond its recently introduced Bitcoin ETF without changing its focus on regulated investment products.

Instead of purchasing cryptocurrencies directly, investors can access both assets through traditional brokerage accounts. Consequently, the products remove the need for investors to manage digital wallets or secure private keys while maintaining direct market exposure.

Ethereum ETF combines price exposure with staking rewards

Morgan Stanley’s Ethereum ETF has been structured to track Ether’s market price while earning staking rewards from a portion of the fund’s holdings. According to the company’s filings, the strategy allows investors to benefit from Ethereum’s price movements while generating additional returns through network staking.

Additionally, the fund will hold Ether directly instead of relying on derivative products. That approach enables the ETF to reflect spot market performance more accurately while incorporating staking income where regulations permit.

The combination of direct ownership and staking distinguishes the product from several earlier cryptocurrency investment vehicles that focused only on tracking price performance. Besides lowering costs, Morgan Stanley has also introduced an investment structure that could appeal to institutions seeking additional yield opportunities.

Solana fund targets direct ownership of SOL

Morgan Stanley has adopted a similar strategy for its Solana ETF by investing directly in SOL rather than synthetic instruments. According to the firm’s filings, the fund will track the CoinDesk Solana Benchmark settlement rate, providing investors with exposure to Solana’s market performance.

Furthermore, direct ownership allows the ETF to closely mirror SOL’s price without requiring investors to purchase or safeguard the cryptocurrency themselves. That structure simplifies access for traditional investors while maintaining regulated exposure through established financial markets.

The identical 0.14% management fee also positions the Solana ETF as the lowest-cost product in its category. Consequently, Morgan Stanley has introduced two competitively priced funds designed to attract investors seeking affordable cryptocurrency exposure.

Morgan Stanley’s Ethereum and Solana ETFs expand the firm’s regulated crypto investment lineup while emphasizing low fees and direct asset exposure. According to Eric Balchunas, both products enter the market with record-low expense ratios, highlighting growing competition among major financial institutions offering cryptocurrency ETFs.
